Makes sense that Mayor Pat McCrory filed with the state board of elections today. Word out of Raleigh is that he hired a direct mail firm and other campaign staff in the past few days. Can’t spend money without a campaign, can’t have a campaign without filing one. I still expect a formal announcement tomorrow or Friday.
The next big question is, how does Mayor Pat run as Mayor Pat? Local Dems seem to be holding out some hope that he would resign to run. I don’t see that happening, certainly not before the May 6 primary.
After interesting doo-dads: Who is the campaign chairman? Does Ed McMahan resign his NC GOP post to help with the campaign? Will Pat make the Jan. 17 debate in Raleigh?
