We always knew the Uptown paper of record would be vexed when faced with having to choose between the Democratic power structure and local symbiote Pat McCrory. But the edit the other day was a stroke of genius. It left McCrory thinking he had been complemented when in fact the argument made clear that free-spending, ever-growing government remains the goal of the Dilworth lib tribe.

By way of defending McCrory from the observation by Jerry Meek, chairman of the N.C. Democratic Party, that Char-Meck has had the highest tax burden in the state for seven years running, the edit explains, “One reason is that Mecklenburg residents want services and are willing to pay for them.”

“A ‘fiscal conservative,’ to use Mr. Meek’s term, knows there’s nothing conservative about neglecting community needs. Our city and county – and many others across this state – have raised the money to meet local needs,” it concludes.

In other words, considering the licentious approach of Char-Meck, Pat McCrory is a fiscal conservative. That’s brilliant.
