As you can probably imagine, Meck Deck has a few questions about UNCC’s gracious offer to house 2012 Democratic conventions visitors in dorm rooms. You guessed it —– should DNC take up the offer, the fall semester would be pushed back almost a month.

But here’s what jumped out at me:

Michael Green, president-elect of the faculty council, said the offer has faculty support.

“The overriding sentiment is that this is such a unique opportunity for students in specific programs such business, political science, economics, sociology (and others) that it’s worthwhile for us to make the accommodation as a public institution,” he said.

“It is a terrific opportunity for students and their professors to plan for specific kinds of learning that could not otherwise take place in the classroom.”

The questions begs how the students are going to learn from the experience if they’re not there to take it all in. But the bigger question is whether or not the faculty would be so enthusiastic if instead we were talking the Republican convention.
