Plans for a new $380 million office tower and museum are being unveiled today. Take that Wachovia and Uptown Charlotte! The 61-story Museum Plaza would be finished in 2010 and — ta-da! — help lure young professionals to downtown Louisville where they could live in $400,000+ condos. This creative class, like moths to a flame, huh?
The Louisville, um, thing will need at least $75 million in public money in addition to being built on free, city-donated land, if the state of Kentucky goes along. Needless to say, local leaders have already signed off on the plan; that is what local leaders do these days, you know. Has anyone checked to see if there is enough stuff to go in all these new cultural icons cities keep building? Somebody is gonna end up with velvet Elvises and the dogs playing poker, I’m telling ya.
