The Journal reports:

Winston-Salem still holds the title to Bowman Gray Stadium almost a year after city leaders voted to sell it, with no firm word on when or if the state will give the go-ahead for Winston-Salem State University to acquire it.

In the meantime, the racing season started at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night. The city has entered into a short-term deal with WSSU for the university to carry out stadium operations such as parking, security, cleanup and other similar tasks, although WSSU has in turn contracted with Bucky Dame to head up those operations.

Advocates feel strongly about racing at Bowman-Gray, so much so that a third party of private investors is prepared to make an upset bid, a route the City Council would be willing to explore, according to City Manager Lee Garrity.

Stay tuned.
