Well, the grand school board endorsements have come and gone without any surprises, except maybe that county party chairman John Aneralla left people confused. Multiple unofficial accounts say Aneralla moved to not endorse a candidate in the District 1 race pitting Larry Gauvreau against Rhonda Lennon. That’s a real head-scratcher as endorsing someone in the races was Aneralla’s idea. His motion was overwhelmingly voted down and Gauvreau won the endorsement.
The whole episode has led long-time party activist Tom Ashcraft to call on Aneralla to resign his post, citing a loss in confidence in his leadership.
“If you can’t lead your side in the local GOP Executive Committee to victory, how can you lead future Republican candidates running in tough general elections to victory?” Ashcraft asks in an open letter to Aneralla.
And just think, a whole month before Election Day and already Charlotte has this kind of drama.
