I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised by the language used by a reporter in what is supposed to be an objective hard news story on today’s Kyoto Protocol meeting in Montreal:

“Kyoto is a tiny step toward braking a warming trend that most
scientists say could cause more floods, storms, drive up sea levels,
spread diseases and push thousands of species to extinction.”

A tiny step?  This is a perfect example of media bias. One of the
most prevalent problem with media bias is not overt partisanship
(although that does exist) but subtle or not so subtle views on policy
issues incorporated into a story. Environmental reporting is even worse
than most areas given that the media takes environmental group
arguments and consider them as the gospel.  If anyone dares to
counter these arguments,  he is not just loony, but someone that
should be scorned.

BTW: Unless it is a style issue I am not aware of, the word braking in the story is misspelled as well.
