Here’s this from a Politico love-fest on the Obama family (my emphasis):

More than any recent first family, the Obamas have come to personify a middle-class lifestyle that, while rarefied, is something with which many Americans can identify.

But in the same story is this (my emphasis):

The family stayed in a house they rented for $25,000 per week on an island known as a playground for celebrities and CEOs…

To try to alleviate this cognitive dissonance, the Politico propagandist admits this is “hardly your average American’s week at the lake,” but predicts, incredibly:

Nonetheless, the much-publicized R & R was likely to cement a connection with a significant portion of the electorate.

How so? Because he went biking and bought ice cream for his daughters. Forget his multi-million book deals, his Rezko-financed mansion in Chicago’s Hyde Park and his private-school and Ivy League education. He’s middle class because the media say so.
