The Wyoming Liberty Group has recently published a paper advocating medical freedom zones. It’s an idea similar to the concept of enterprise zones where government interference with free enterprise would be minimized, in this instance allowing individuals and medical practitioners and institutions to work out their own contracts.

Observation 1. The entire US ought to be a medical freedom zone since there is no constitutional authority for the federal meddling with medical care that has so messed up this market.

Observation 2. This idea will be vociferously opposed by people who say that they are “pro-choice” since that applies exclusively to abortion, not to any other choice people might want to make.
