Martin Morse Wooster has a fine review here of a new Liberty Fund book on Frederic Bastiat, one of the great economic and political writers of all time.
I found particularly interesting Bastiat’s observations about the two big political parties in France when he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1846. Both were committed to terrible policies. If Bastiat were elected to Congress today, I’m sure he’d find the situation very similar.
