At today’s N.C. School Boards Association debate, gubernatorial candidate Fred Smith argued that home-schoolers should be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities offered by district schools.

According to the N&O, John Horton, chairman of the Hertford County school board responded, “That’s a definite no-no. To participate in extracurricular activities, you have to be a part of the system, and home schooled kids are not a part of the system.”

Another school board member was overheard saying that home schooled kids do not have the social skills to participate in extracurricular activities anyway. Just kidding.
