Congratulations to Sen. Howard Lee and John Tate, both members of the North Carolina State School Board, for speaking out in favor of performance pay for teachers. Finally the performance of individual teachers could be tied to achievement results of students in their classroom. Tate went so far to say ?paying people more for tenure on the job than for performance?something?s wrong!?

However, it will be interesting to see if the teacher?s union in Denver approves of the same move. Interesting that a 30-year veteran teacher in Denver said, ?Any teacher here more than 10 years knows you cannot trust the district.” What about parents trusting teachers or the district?

While we do not have collective bargaining in NC, the state still deals with an education blob who will balk and scream at this unfair treatment of holding teachers accountable for achievement. Hopefully Lee and Tate will continue this direction with vivacity, time will tell. Could this be a long over due culture shift in education?
