Michael Barone’s column today on the Ricci case is excellent. The Court’s decision isn’t really his focus, but rather the ugly background of the case. The heart of the matter was that a black activist in New Haven threw a fit when the firefighter promotion exam proved too difficult for any blacks to pass. Barone twists the knife, saying that what such activists want is the exact opposite of Martin Luther King’s dream that people would be judged on their character not the color of their skin.

Barone also digs into the justifications offered by leftist intellectuals for the new racism. They’re awfully feeble.
