Michigan’s state motto is “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you.” Okay, but if you seek economic rationality, close your eyes. The UAW is on strike against General Motors, which is on financial thin ice. The governor wants to impose big tax increases. Detroit News writer Henry Payne covers the state’s decline here.
At least, the scenery is still nice. Unless you happen to be looking at once bustling parts of Detroit that now resemble cities bombed and fought over in World War II.
