Michigan’s state motto is “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you.” Okay, but if you seek economic rationality, close your eyes. At least, the scenery is still nice. Unless you happen to be looking at once bustling parts of Detroit that now resemble cities bombed and fought over in World War II.
