Tampa Bay rookie WR Mike Williams was on the draft board until the 4th round. That is the same Mike Williams who started for the Bucs and torched the Panthers for a TD in yesterday’s 20-7 Carolina loss.
In other words, Williams was on the board one round past where the Panthers traded up to get Armanti Edwards, the rookie WR who has yet to see the field for Carolina in the regular season. Has yet to dress for a game.
I think that tells us all we need to know about the personnel moves of Marty Hurney in the off-season. Add in Jeff Davidson’s mysterious play-calling and what can only be a desire to showcase Mike Goodson in order to open up trade avenues for RBs Goodson, DeAngelo Williams, or Jonathan Stewart and the Panthers have effectively ended their season early.
The Matt Moore-Jimmy Clausen drama is actually the least interesting part of the Panthers rolling discombobulation. Jordan Gross does not look near 100 percent back from his leg injury. I am beginning to wonder if Jeff Otah will play this season. Carolina’s athletic, willing safeties seem lost. Richard Marshall has suddenly become a head-case. Dwayne Jarrett has slipped behind a second rookie on the depth chart.
Only the LB corps can be called a bright spot. But once again, no pressure from the front-four. Everett Brown has not performed at all to the 1st round level Carolina gave up to get him.
Here’s where you start wonder if opposing fans will be in the majority in Uptown Charlotte from now through the rest of the season.
