Jefferson Middle School teacher Mark Mercer was arrested on 29 counts of statutory rape, indecent liberties with a minor and sexual activity with a student by a teacher. Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools has suspended Mercer without pay and Superintendent Don Martin will recommend that he be fired.
Mercer is being held on a $1.2 million bond.
Seems like we’re on a roll here with public officials in trouble —– Randleman alderman and former JROTC instructor Michael Dawkins was arrested on charges of attempted sex offense with a student.
