Back in 1979 with Free to Choose hot off the presses and three years after he received his Nobel Prize, Milton Friedman did an hour long interview with Phil Donahue, maybe the most popular talk show on television at the time. The entire interview is offered in a 5 part series as YouTube. Some of the hot topics discussed might sound familiar—should the government bailout Chrysler, is a particular low priced chain of department stores gaining too much market power (not Wal-Mart but K-Mart), are multinationals growing out of control, to name a few. One of the many things we learn from this interview is that the age of Barack Obama is not all that different from the age of Jimmy Carter. All 5 parts are worth watching. They represent a mini-course in free market economics. I think Donahue must set the record for the number of times a person has been left left speechless in a one hour period. Here are the links:
