The TIME writer who calls himself ?The Curious Capitalist,? Justin Fox, apparently lacks the curiosity to read much Adam Smith.

If he had read even the most basic quotes from Smith?s Wealth of Nations, Fox would not start his latest column with this sentence:

You know Adam Smith for his “invisible hand,” the mysterious force that steers the selfish economic decisions of individuals toward a result that leaves us all better off.

?Self-interest? is not ?selfishness.? If Smith?s huge tome is too much for Fox to take, perhaps he can learn the difference between the two terms by reading some P.J. O?Rourke. Or he could listen to William Peterson.
