The word “missing” cropped up a quite often this morning as the N.C. Board of Elections continued hearing evidence of campaign finance irregularities involving legislators.

After spending two-and-a-half days in February focusing on contributions involving optometrists, State House Speaker Jim Black and former Rep. Michael Decker, this morning’s discussion has focused on two Hertford County lawmakers — Rep. Howard Hunter and Sen. Robert Holloman.

Hunter had few answers to the board’s questions.  He explained that all of his campaign finance information was included in an attache case that disappeared from his car three to four weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Holloman could not explain why a form detailing some of his earliest campaign contributions was missing from the file he sent to the state elections board.

More details to follow.
