Despite an avalanche of scandals, corruption and ethical problems, Democrats aren’t being punished in the polls. Gee, I wonder why that is:

Can this really be true after the Blagojevich-Burris-Obama fiasco? When Tom Daschle, Tim Geithner, Kathleen Sebelius, and Charlie Rangel haven’t paid their taxes? When Jack Murtha is funneling loads of cash to his local airport and implicated in taking corrupt contributions from PMA lobbyists, along with many of his Democratic colleagues?

I suppose voters would have to actually hear about these scandals in order for there to be a negative impact on public opinion.

Even if the public hears about a particular scandal or ethical problem involving a Democratic politician, they rarely are told that it IS a Democrat. We have pointed out many times on this blog the lack of a “D” behind the name of most indicted or convicted Dems, an omission that never seems to apply when Republicans are involved.

Some commenters may think we’re overreacting about the lack of a Democratic labels when Dems go bad, but the polls show why this is dangerous for democracy, as it forms public opinion based on untruths. The media, intentionally or not (I would argue the former), refuse to label scandalized Democrats because they know it would hurt them in the polls. I think we can see that it’s working.
