Cone tried to tell ’em about the FedEx hub.
The way I see it, it’s a little more complicated than planning around PTIA suddenly being in vogue. It’s about a high-profile developer making a lot of noise, so to speak, about building residential out by the airport. It’s also about the Heart of the Triad guys creeping onto the airport’s turf with their utopian visions.
Which is not to say that the timing of the airport’s master plan update isn’t interesting, at least from a money perspective. Greensboro City Councilman Tom Phillips mentioned the need to study development around the airport almost as an afterthought at Tuesday’s night’s meeting, then —-boom—we hear the next day that the FAA released $1 million to support the master plan update.
I realize Henry Isaacson has influence, but geez.
