We even have a name for the “real killer” via a jailhouse snitch — Octavious Elmore, a guy with a far more violent criminal past than accused cop killer Demeatrius Montgomery.
If Fant suppressed evidence that pointed to Elmore and not Montgomery, I fear the case against Montgomery starts to fall apart. Certainly the odds for some sort of plea deal on lesser charges increase. The prosecution simply cannot risk letting the guy skate, especially on appeal. But anyone who has ever spent a day covering a criminal case knows that predictions are folly. There is just no telling what a judge, jury, or lawyers will do when confronted with murky facts and multiple options.
We’ll just have to stay glued to Charlotte’s very own courtroom drama mini-series.
