Over the past several years, I have nearly been sideswiped on multiple occasions by drivers weaving into my lane. Why are they weaving? Not because they’re talking on the phone, but because they’re tending to children. It happened again this week as a female driver re-created Linda Blair’s Exorcist head spin and yelled at a child seated behind her. While doing so, the Linda Blair look-alike veered to within just a few inches of my vehicle. Since it’s clear the nanny-staters such as those in Chapel Hill believe it’s appropriate to pass ordinances to crack down on driving distractions — they’ve decided cell phones are the problem — I continue to wonder if they’ll ever acknowledge the problem of drivers who believe it’s OK to yell at, feed, dress, read to, and/or play games with children while they’re driving. To be clear, I’m not asking for a law. I’m simply asking for common sense from drivers — and from officials who believe they should legislate common sense.
