Tuesday, Asheville City Councilman Brownie Newman will be presenting “Proposed Land Use and Community Development Policies for Asheville.”
Brownie wants to put development in Asheville under centralized government control with a master plan. He is searching for means for government visionaries to increase affordable/workforce housing stock downtown. (Good luck.) He wants to discuss height limits for buildings. Most importantly, he wants to consider a formula ordinance. What self-respecting government doesn’t have a long arm and strong fist to make life difficult for those who dare to meet market demands in a manner that generates profits without government subsidy?
Another thing government needs to be doing, according to Newman, is protecting the environment through ordinances and incentives. Americans won’t buy Communism at face value, so it has to sneak in in a Trojan horse painted green.
