I feel sorry for Charlotteans who voted for Bev Perdue, I really do. To watch her try to pull the tried-and-true with country bumpkins “promise ’em the moon” routine with a $220m. urban loop has to be maddening for them.
Now Perdue has shifted ever so slightly off of her promise to start the last leg of 485 by the end of the year. Turns out it all depends on convincing the feds to send money to do the job. Oh. Really. Not much of a promise then, is it?
And you can already see the next phase of Bev’s spin in formation. Any more questions or complaints about 485 will be met with reference to the $4.5m. state bribe to GMAC in provide “jobs” in Uptown. Carrot-and-stick, people.
Works on the rubes everytime.
