The Winston-Salem Journal’s Scott Sexton weighs in on CHANGE’s effort to bring nonpartisan politics to Forsyth County’s school board elections:

Imagine that — an election in which the candidates talk about relevant issues rather than slinging mud, crowing about money raised or relying on party-line voting.

Challengers with fresh ideas might actually stand a chance against entrenched incumbents who win time and again based on the power of that incumbency and currying favor with local politicos.

CHANGE thinks that we are ready for that kind of honest debate about curriculum, testing and the like.

Unfortunately, Sexton doesn’t answer Rep. Dale Folwell’s question, either. Just what has the current school board, elected under the partisan system, done so wrong?
