Classic. CMS was all set to “punish” an Independence football for using a phony address except for one minor detail: The kid is not playing football this year.

Meanwhile, CMS has set up a snitch line and email, the very definition of a make-work program for CMS rent-a-cops and desk jockeys. A more bizarre waste of resources is hard to imagine.

And where is CMS Athletic Director Vicki Hamilton in all of this? Shouldn’t she shoulder some responsibility for what evidently was rampant eligibility abuse across CMS? No, she is is evidently untouchable, despite making $101K a year. Why?

Well, back in February the NC High School Athletic Association inducted Hamilton into its Hall of Fame, along with CMS board chairman Joe White. Wouldn’t look too good for CMS to hold Hamiltion responsible now, not after NCHSAA honored Hamilton after it was clear that she did nothing about eligibility issues at West Charlotte when a Central Cabarrus coach reported them to her last November.

In fact, in has become very clear that a large part of CMS’ eligibility farce is designed to remove all responsibility from Hamilton’s office for compliance without ever saying that Hamilton made a mistake.

Maybe someone should stake out Hamilton’s South Park condo and try and get some answers.

Update: Even better. CMS told the Uptown paper it was suspending an East Meck player who had lived in the zone since 1994. The paper reported this on Friday afternoon — which was our initial link above — and then the kid’s dad set the record straight. This resulted in a new story — which replaced the previous story and broke the initial link — for Saturday’s paper.

CMS has yet to explain the confusion. As usual.
