I’ve received my second batch of warm and fuzzy, mommy-targeted email from the N&O, evidently solely because I’m a registered user of the paper’s site. The first mail advised me to drive to Raleigh to a party today to “meet other moms!” Er, uh — I’ll have to ask my wife.

Now I’m told I can lounge in bed in my robe and enjoy the Sunday N&O for only $1 a week. Special coupon code: Pink. I am not making that up. Er, uh.

This effort conforms with what we’ve already told you is the latest McClatchy silver bullet to gin up ad revenue — target moms, both editorially and with marketing. The problem is that McClatchy manifestly does not know who is using their sites — nor can it. But still it goes ahead and bulk spams an offer that even a legit mom in Charlotte could not use.
