Guess what? PART wants more money for bus service between Lexington and Winston-Salem. And then some.

Service in Davidson County is already funded through a 5 percent tax on car and truck rentals. But…..

The rental car tax, which took effect at the beginning of October, is estimated to provide about $90,000 annually in required local matching funds for the bus service.

However, once that reserve is spent, the county may have to consider adding another tax to help. A local $1 license tag tax can be authorized for PART and would yield about $130,000 a year. Local governments are required to pay a 10 percent match for service. Commissioners could also vote to discontinue service.

Figures, doesn’t it?
