First Lady Michelle Obama was at Fort Bragg yesterday, ostensibly to show how much the First Family thinks of servicemen and veterans:

“Military families bear a very heavy burden,” Obama said. “They do it without complaint. But we as a nation need to find a way to lighten their load.”

While she was mouthing nice things about our military in North Carolina, up in Washington her husband’s administration was considering giving them the shaft:

Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance. …

Asked about the proposal, Shinseki said it was under “consideration.”

The News & Observer ran a four-column photo of the First Lady smiling at some military brats (a term of endearment, friends, as I am one myself) but didn’t think the story about stabbing veterans in the back was worthy of printing. Another reason newspapers are dying.
