Here is the key phrase in Randy’s article:
“does anyone doubt that Ms. Miers’s only qualification to be a Supreme Court justice is her close connection to the president? Would the president have ever picked her if she had not been his lawyer, his close confidante, and his adviser?”
This pick was cronyism pure and simple. She may or may not end up being another Scalia or Thomas–that will not change the fact. It also may or may not be a slap in the face to his conservative supporters, but it is clearly a slap in the face to Edith Jones, Priscilla Owens and Janice Rogers Brown, to name just three. I believe that this is this George Bush’s “read my lips” moment.
