A fellow UVA wahoo who has a blog called edwahoo.com exposes Virginia Governor Mark Warner’s graduation rate hypocracy. Virginia uses a method similar to North Carolina, whereby the state calculates the graduation rate based on the number of seniors who graduate, rather than the number of students who enter 9th grade and graduate four years later. As chairman of the National Governors Association, Warner spearheaded an effort to standardize the latter method (which yields a 74% rate for VA), but uses the former method when reporting Virginia’s graduation rate (which yields a 94.6% rate for VA).

As a presidential hopeful, Warner knows that a 74% graduation rate does not scream “education governor” the same way that a 94.6% rate does.
