The left has apparently decided that any move toward letting citizens back away from Social Security must be met with scorched-earth resistance. The New York Times, naturally, has been in the thick of things, with screedy, dissimulative pieces. So is AARP, which must feel institutionally obligated to fight for Big Government. They’ve spent a load of money on big ads saying that personal accounts are like “playing the slots.”

After a few more counter-punches such as this one by Larry Kudlow on NRO (read it here), maybe AARP will realize that it’s fighting a losing battle.
