PTIA authority chairmain Henry Isaacson says he has “mixed emotions” about the departure of Skybus CEO Bill Diffenderffer, while more questions about the wisdom of the airport’s involvement with a low-fare air carrier are raised:
A critic of economic incentives said the recent problems confronting Skybus show why the government shouldn’t get involved in risky ventures such as start-up airlines.
“This just throws up more warning signs,” said Chris Hayes, legislative analyst with the Civitas Institute in Raleigh.
Hayes questions what type of screening the state is doing before offering major incentives packages.
“Especially start-up airlines, where the failure rate has been tremendous,” Hayes said.
What can you say, desperate people do desperate things.
