In this column Terry Jeffrey writes about the promises Obama is making for a big increase in American foreign aid spending.
Foreign aid was never a good idea. Throwing buckets of money at the rulers of poor countries does very little for the people, but does a lot to help the rulers cement their control. But it’s now utterly idiotic, what with the federal government already looking at astronomical deficits that are sure to increase. The nation will need every bit of wealth we can produce just to keep our heads above the rising water of debt payments and yet the Beloved Leader wants to borrow more to give away to governments in Africa and Asia.
The last 11 months have made it quite plain that Obama suffers from astounding bad judgment. Promising to throw away still more money we don’t have is just one more piece of evidence.
