Food Lion is closing 113 grocery stores. Affected will be the Hendersonville and Weaverville stores. One might blame stimulus-accepting Ingles for pushing them out of the market. However, the official word from Delhaize, the Belgian retailer that owns Food Lion, is the group is focusing on consolidating its successes, and will focus more on expanding Bottom Dollar Food (note the name). At the same time, though, Delhaize is closing six Bottom Dollar Food stores.
P.S. Grocery stores cannot be going out of vogue because too many restaurants are closing. Maybe everybody’s buying Food Insurance.
