Last year I noted some similarities between the two:

There are two things I’ve grown exceedingly tired of this fall: NFL broadcasters blathering about the “Wildcat” offense and idiot politicians spouting off about “economic stimulus” plans. Maybe the dolts are impressed by gimmicks with cool names but no demonstrable long-term success; I’m not.

Now football analyst and Super Bowl winning coach Brian Billick helps me see another similarity; both notions were spawned in the Depression era, a time when economic quacksalvers reigned:

I think the basic tenets of the wildcat go back as far as the wing-T of the 1930s and 40s. I would be hesitant to ascribe credit to anybody, particularly in my lifetime, of being the protagonist of that system that, by the way, doesn?t work.
