Geez, I was ready to let the Skybus deal go, confident that word was out it was a dopey idea.

But I’m seeing Skybus everywhere I look today. For starters, the N&R reminds us (yet again) what a great risk Skybus was by wondering what might have been:

The airline might have boarded 494,000 passengers or more this year, based on 10 months at full throttle operation plus numbers from January and February, Johnson said. That would be at least a 45 percent increase over 2007 and it would have far surpassed the airport’s most popular full-fare airline, US Airways, which boarded 327,555 passengers in 2007.

Real numbers won’t be known unless Skybus releases the figures, but with spring and summer travel coming, travelers were no doubt gearing up for vacations with Skybus’ discount fares.

OK, what’s the point? Where did that leave the passengers and the employees?
