rrJust curious what a 20-year-old is doing on an Uptown bar crawl via a “party bus.”

Then there is the matter of the 20-year-old claiming she was sexually assaulted aboard the chartered bus by four men. CMPD is investigating. A claim is not proof, so let’s see where this goes.

But “partying without a conscience” is never a good idea. That provides license, a mental green light to do whatever you want. And unless you really mean to be Aleister Crowley, do whatever thou whilt is probably gonna end badly for you.

And I’m a little confused by the owner of Charlotte’s renowned party bus operation, Ragin’ Uptown, issuing a statement saying his company is conducting its “own investigation” into what happened — if anything — on one of its buses. Don’t you just cooperate with police the best you can and leave it at that?

Here’s the bottomline, promoters of these bar crawl events supposedly limit them to 21 and over. They cut deals with many venues to eliminate cover charges. After all, they are dropping off hordes of eager drinkers at their doorstep and assuming responsibility for getting them home.

And girls, don’t forget girls. Let them ride the bus for free and dopey guys are sure to pick up the tab. Sounds foolproof, so long as there are enough party people in the Queen City.

But suppose you are promoting one of these deals, you are on the hook for $600-700 worth of bus rental, and your boat is looking a little light. Just how hard do you check the IDs of next raft of females who express an interest in a crawl?

The incentives are all wacky here. That and we’d probably drag a lot more stuff into the sunlight were the drinking age 18.
