Lexington Chamber of Commerce officials Radford Thomas and Gene Klump went to Raleigh last week seeking assurance from state officials that highway projects — among them the I-85 bridge over the Yadkin River —- would be adequately funded:

“I asked the question of what would derail this project,” Klump said. “Politics in Washington was the answer.”

Still the duo was given assurances that state officials are 99 percent sure funding will be in place for the bridge replacement.

It’s that one percent that’s not very reassuring. Stay tuned.
