In this morning’s N&R coverage of last night’s Greensboro City Council meeting, Brady attorney Seth Cohen called the city’s release of confidential information a “last-ditch, desperate attempt” by the city, adding Greensboro citizens should be “ashamed and embarrassed by the actions of their leaders.”

Meanwhile, Toublemaker wonders, as I did, exactly what the purpose was of releasing the conversation between Brady and Scott Sanders:

What does this mean? Is the information that is going to be made public part of the current investigation? Is it a personnel issue? Why this little snippet of information? Why not release everything? Time and time and time again we have heard city leaders say that they wish they could release everything but could not because it could hurt the SBI’s investigation. Is the information to be released today telling? Does it show that Randall Brady violated the law? Could he have lost his job over what is going to be released? Is it part of the S.B.I.’s investigation? Was the information given to Judge Tilley? Tilley recently ordered the city to pay Brady his retirement because they had no reason to withhold it. Tilley did not report that the city’s information regarding Brady made him sick to his stomach. He ordered the city to follow the law and pay Brady.

And as damaging as the info on the tapes might be, City Manager Mitchell Johnson didn’t do much to quiet his critics with a bit of grandstanding during his presentation. After playing the conversation between Brady and Sanders, Johnson let out a sigh showing council members just how disgusted he was with the whole thing, displaying a lack of objectivity and, in my opinion, professionalism.
