Even though the NY Times “blockbuster” about the Bush administration tapping overseas calls after 9/11 is getting red-font coverage from the likes of Drudge, most American newspapers today seem to have played the Iraqi election as their front-page lede or off-lede story. Even The New York Times seemed to recognize the import. The Charlotte Observer, however, dropped it to the bottom with a 1-column box. My old paper didn’t do much better. But The News & Observer mentioned it only in a promo on the front page, going instead with the wiretap story below the fold. Check all of ’em out here.
