Remember that story Friday
that said a poll showed that Americans “initially” supported the NSA’s
data mining, at about a two-people-out-of-three margin? I speculated at the time that the word “initially” really meant “once
we’ve been able to do our disinformation thing on this issue the
stupid rubes won’t support it.” Well, it’s started. In fact, one
Democratic blatherer, Ellen Ratner, came close to actually using the
word “rubes” in her appraisal of the situation:

You know as well as I know: if the American people really
understood what was going  on with their privacy, and the
Democratts could explain it in very simple terms, the tide would turn
against the Bush administration.

Yes, we’re just stupid ignorant masses who can’t really understand anything without a Dem or a lefty’s help. But the attack on NSA support has many fronts. Another one opened up today with the report that a Newsweek poll shows Americans “wary” of NSA data mining.

57 percent said that in light of the NSA data-mining news and other
executive actions, the Bush-Cheney Administration has ?gone too far in
expanding presidential power.”

Wow, what a turnaround. And in less than two days! These guys are really good at turning around public opinion, I guess.
