Caterpillar just announced it will be closing its Franklin plant, eliminating 150 jobs; and another plant in Georgia, costing 125 jobs. In the old days, this would be viewed as streamlining, realizing efficiency, and progress. Today, since labor is viewed by industry as outputs, and permanent ones no less; we are expected to be horrified. My only beef is Caterpillar’s legacy as a great example of the power of Porkulus.
