The Mayor-in-Waiting and official Charlotte city council point-person for transit does not even want to discuss repeal of the half-cent sales tax for transit:

City Council member Pat Mumford, also a Republican, says repealing the tax could be a disaster. He says CATS needs the money not only to cover the light rail crisis, but also to solve future problems as the region’s population grows.

“I think it’s incredibly irresponsible what’s being put out there now that the half-cent sales tax would be repealed,” he said. “I think it’s a political stunt and I think it would undermine a very comprehensive plan around transportation in this community.”

Perfect. If serial CATS apologist Mumford thinks a repeal effort is an irresponsible stunt, then it must absolutely be the right thing to do. We talking metaphysical certainty here.

Besides, “irresponsible stunt” sounds a helluva lot more fun than “petition drive” does anyway. Americans love irresponsible stunts. The question then: Are the residents of Charlotte real Americans?
