NC State professor Phil Munoz has an opinion piece in today’s News & Observer (link not yet available) on the recent controversy in Winston-Salem over a public display of a Ten Commandments monument. Munoz reviews the situation and provides insight into where our rights really come from — hint, Vernon Robinson’s view of history and the Ten Commandments is a bit off kilter.

One small complaint about the piece. Munoz writes, “…we should not confuse American law with divine law. The blessings of liberty include the separation of church and state and the right to religious freedom. These sacred principles we must never forget.” While we do not use the public square to promote a religion and the separation of the two is prudent, I don’t think it rises to the level of a “sacred principle.” Otherwise, it is a good read on a current issue from a friend of freedom.
