The Rhino’s Paul Clark writes up the legal situation surrounding possible mold problems at Oak Ridge Elementary, and it could definitely get worse for Guilford County Schools. I was wondering about the poor teachers dispatched to a moldy school to pick up supplies, especially since GCS speculated that the mold could have come from old books.
I shouldn’t have worried, because the teachers appear to be looking out for themselves just fine:
Guilford County Schools this week sent teachers into Oak Ridge Elementary, which has been closed since school let out at the beginning of June, to go through their files and supplies to decide what to take to the alternate schools, a move that has some teachers asking for legal advice on an environmental law website – a possible prelude to lawsuits by teachers and parents against the school system, something that has been discussed in the Oak Ridge community for months.
Maybe I missed the grand unveiling, but it appears that Superintendent Mo Green’s regional system is in place, as West Regional Superintendent Angelo Kidd was the point man when an alternate site was found to have—- you guessed it —- possible mold problems. Kidd reasoned that “”with the musty smell, we wanted to err on the side of caution,” adding “we’d open ourselves up to a lot of criticism.”
