In this week’s Clarion Call, I review the new book by Mary Lefkowitz, History Lesson. It recounts her battle against factually erroneous but politically correct “Afrocentric” teaching at Wellesley.

I would put this book right near the top of the list of book to read if you want to understand contemporary higher education, for Lefkowitz exposes some of its most distressing features: professors who seek to indoctrinate, craven administrators who fear to confront anyone with “victim class” status, the use of bullying tactics, and, worst of all, the notion that some ideas should be above criticism.
