Here’s reax to our clearly declaimed spec on the meaning of Hal Weatherman’s departure from Rep. Sue Myrick’s staff:

To Jeff A. Taylor:

The comments on your blog today were brought to my attention. Hal Weatherman is not moving to Pensacola. Hal and I are not fighting the ‘Muslims’. Our concern is the worldwide radical Islamist movement. The majority of Muslims in this country are freedom loving Americans. It is unfair of you to paint them with a broad brush.

I respectfully recommend that you consider asking Hal Weatherman to make his presentation on radical Islamist ideology to your group so that you may understand this issue and the national security threats America faces. Right now, people are risking their lives all over the Mideast – struggling for the freedoms too many Americans take for granted. The radical Islamists are a threat to them as well. Look at Iran!

As to your speculation regarding my retirement: I refer you to the immortal words of John Paul Jones – ‘I have not yet begun to fight’.

Sue Myrick
Member of Congress

Fair enough. And I can see that it was possible to read the implication that Weatherman was physically moving to Florida for his new gig in the initial post. Didn’t mean that, but still my bad.

Bottomline, I have an extremely hard time taking the Muslim bogeyman meme remotely seriously. I know too much about the genesis of the movement inside the Beltway. Besides, incompetence not conspiracy is the prime enemy when it comes to national security. To join that fight Rep. Myrick could’ve sided with the 26 House Republicans who voted against the PATRIOT Act extension.

Maybe next time.
