A unanimous three-judge panel of the N.C. Court of Appeals has upheld a jury’s $6 million verdict against the Raleigh News & Observer and former reporter Mandy Locke in a libel case.

In a 56-page opinion, the appellate judges agreed with the jury that Locke and the newspaper intentionally defamed a state employee named Beth Desmond in a series of articles about SBI firearms analysis.
